Sunday Runs are Like Buses

Non for a while and then two come along together on the 3rd Sunday in the Month – 19th January 2014

The “A” group from Peter Leonard

Its not often the Sunday Club runs goes to the same café on consecutive weeks but there is always an exception to the rule and this Sunday (19/1/14) proved to be one of those occasions. Café de Lune was once again the chosen destination – not sure who made that decision but nobody seemed to mind. Early morning rain was forecast to stop and so it proved. Regular attendee’s present were Spencer Coltman, Dave Morgan, Steve Duffel, Karl Turner, Lenny Collins and yours truly. We also had two additional riders in the shape of Reese (sorry should have got your surname) and comeback man Ian Hodgeson who used to race for the club some years ago.

A brisk but not silly pace was set all day, mostly by Spence who said he was in fat burning mode????? The outward route consisted of Preston Docks, Bartle, Catforth, St Michaels, Pilling, Cockerham and Conder Green and the parcours only be described as flat. The café was busy but all managed to get seats upstairs where there are great views of the Lune Estuary. This café sometimes get isolated at high tides and on leaving the tide was coming in fast so our timing was immaculate.

The return route was via Cockerham, Forton, Scorton, Barnacre, Billsborow, Woodplumpton and on to Preston. Just prior to Billsborow Alan Stark was spotted ahead. He complained of missing the start so rode to Scorton by himself. Great ride by Reece, this being his first Sunday run. He said he found it a bit faster than he was used to but he hung on gamely to the back of the group and would have done 80 miles on getting home.

Next week sees the Preston Wheelers reliability Trial which some of the racing section may be interested in riding. Starts at 9am at Withy Trees , Preston. £2 to enter which includes refreshments half way round.

The “B” Group led by Colin Baldwin

A group of twelve? riders left the Plough at 9.30. am and had an enjopyable ride out to Rivington Barn. Vince found the going a bit tough on the way home as he had been feeling not so good all week, but eventually all were reported to have made it back to Southport.
