Boxing Day Time Trial, 9:30 start time. Meet at the Club Room from Up and down the Coast Road (Weld Road  to Pontins and back). Prizes for the best decorated bike and rider.

The club organises 3 types of ride and works in conjunction with Pedal Away to provide rides for all abilities. The information provided below is intended to help riders select a ride most suited to their ability and needs. If you’re not sure which ride is most suitable for you, just drop us an email and we will contact you for a chat (you can email us through the ‘Contact’ page of the website).

Club Ride

As a guide, the Club Ride is suitable to anyone who would average 14-15 mph on a 30/40 mile flat route with favourable weather conditions.  Club Rides always include a stop at a local café. Whilst these rides are mostly 30/40 miles in length there are occasions when the distance covered is increased.

Arrangements for club rides:

Day Time Meeting Point
Week days 9:30 Plough Bus Stop
Saturday 9:30 Plough Bus Stop
Sunday 9:30 Plough Bus Stop

Inters Ride

The Inters Ride (aka Intermediate Ride) is aimed at riders who want to, and have the ability to, ride at a quicker pace than the Club Ride.  As a guide, this ride should be suitable to anyone who would average around 17 mph on a 50 mile flat route with favourable weather conditions. The Inters Ride will typically be 50 to 60 miles long and will often involve some hill climbing. There will usually be a cafe stop on route. The Inters Ride will be ridden as a group with rolling regrouping when required.

Arrangements for intermediate rides:

Day Time Meeting Point
Thursday 8:30 Pines/Ainsdale Police Station

The start time for this ride is approximate because individuals may be delayed getting home from work etc. Information can be found each week via the SCC WhatsApp group.

This is a 40/50 mile ride with no café stop.

Saturday 8:30 Plough Bus Stop – Check WhatsApp group or Facebook for details.
Sunday Various Check WhatsApp for details.

Sporting Ride

The Sporting Ride is suitable to anyone who would average 18+mph on a 50 mile flat route with favourable weather conditions.  The Sporting Ride on a Sunday will typically be 60 to 80 miles long with some longer rides in the summer.  There will always be a cafe stop to replenish food stocks, drinks bottles and to discuss the route home.   We will always sit up to regroup when required.

Arrangements for Sporting Rides

Day Time Meeting Point
Sunday 9:30 Junction of Blackgate Lane and A565.

The route is agreed at the meeting point. Typically rides head north of Preston to the Fylde/Trough of Bowland areas.

How to find out what is happening

Clearly there will be occasions when things change e.g. rides may be cancelled because of the weather, or additional rides may be organised.  Whilst keeping everyone informed of everything is probably impossible you can get a lot of ‘live’ information through the following media:

  • SCC Club Website
  • ‘Southport Cycling  Club Official Group’ Facebook Page
  • SCC WhatsApp group

If you wish to become a member of either of these last two groups please contact Geoff Caton: [email protected]
